About this event
Buccaneer Region SCCA - SEDiv Convention Road Rally
Sunday January 26th, 2024
Check-in: 9:30am, First Car Out: 10:30am
We are excited to announce our latest road rally event in conjunction with the SEDiv Annual Convention. Each car will drive on paved public roads using a set of predefined route instructions through various checkpoints using the Richta Road Rally mobile application. Participants will be scored based on their arrival time at each of the defined checkpoints. We will start at the conference hotel where cars will depart 1 minute apart. The finish will also be at the conference hotel, where scoring, awards, and lunch will be available (you are responsible for purchasing your own food, we encourage everyone to eat and support the location).
New to road rally or unsure what this is all about? Check out this (somewhat lengthy but humorous) video explanation.
Any car is allowed, such that it meets all Georgia state laws and is insured to meet the state’s minimum requirements. A valid driver's license and proof of insurance will be required at on-site registration. Each car is allowed as many people as there are seat belts in the vehicle, but each car is suggested to have at least 2 people, a driver and a navigator. There will be a starting location, five (5) unmanned checkpoints, followed by a sixth checkpoint at the finishing location. Team numbers will be assigned but the starting order will be determined at random.
There are three available classes for this rally: Stock, Limited and Seat of Your Pants. Visit https://www.scca.com/pages/roadrally-rules for official class descriptions and rules. Below are some examples of the types of setups used in each class.
- Stock: Using your vehicle's stock trip/odometer, smartphone as a calculator, and a stopwatch (perhaps the same or another smartphone). This is the most common class and recommended for novices.
- Limited: Using the car’s built in navigation system to show distance traveled, a 3rd party GPS tracking system via mobile app (i.e. Richta Odometer, Maps, or a Odometer/Trip app), as long as that information isn’t transferable to the calculating device (i.e. can't be the same smartphone running the app and calculations).
- SOP: Just your odometer, pens/pencils, stopwatch, and gut instincts. No calculator of any kind.
Online registration for the driver and navigator is required. To register, please visit:
